The Minimal Animal Is Live On Squarespace
We had so much fun creating for our client Kim’s interior design business, The Minimal Animal. Kim had such a gorgeous vision and we loved getting to bring it to life! Kim was drawn to our vault template Meticulous for her Restyle.
Her fun and unique style was inspiring to design her site. We created a minimal, high-end design for her website that reflects her taste and level of excellence in the interior design space.
“It takes time to get good, longer to get great, and maybe a lifetime to master something.”
GO LIVE: WHERE DID YOUR PASSION FOR THE INDUSTRY OR CRAFT START?
Kim: Growing up, my mom was an artist with a need for aesthetically pleasing interiors on a super low budget. We'd spend our weekends hitting up garage and estate sales, and I remember being so proud of how she made something that cost so little look so good. Without knowing it, my need to be surrounded by beautiful things was set, and I spent my early adult years redecorating all the spaces I entered in my mind. In my 30's, I decided to decorate them in real life.
GO LIVE: DID YOUR EDUCATION HELP PREPARE YOU FOR THE INDUSTRY OR FOR STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS? OR ARE YOU SELF-TAUGHT?
Kim: I have a degree in Communication, which helps me in a lot of ways that do affect my business, and also just in life. The decor part is a combination of lots of really talented people who have taught me, and a desire to become an expert in the field!
GO LIVE: WHAT’S THE HARDEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED IN YOUR BUSINESS?
Kim: Taking on too many projects at once is a major don't for me. When I first started I was so flattered that people were wanting to hire me that I just said yes to everyone. Very quickly my family was suffering, and I had accidentally and completely given up all balance. I'm now very selective of what I say yes to. With three kids four and under, I want to make sure I'm as present at home as I am on the job. Charity starts at home : )
GO LIVE: WHAT DO YOU WISH SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU WHEN YOU STARTED OUT?
Kim: To be patient with myself. It takes time to get good, longer to get great, and maybe a lifetime to master something. It's a work in progress, and it's easy to self-doubt and we are often our own worst critics. I want to design cool spaces for the enjoyment of creating them!
GO LIVE: WHAT WAS THE MOMENT YOU HAD WHEN YOU SAID, “I SHOULD DO THIS” OR WHAT MADE YOU TAKE THE JUMP INTO WORKING FOR YOURSELF?
Kim: There wasn't really a clear moment. I just took project after project and the work just kept getting better. At some point I decided I wasn't afraid to commit to this path, and wasn't too shabby at it ; )
GO LIVE: WHAT THINGS HAVE YOU GAINED / DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN FROM FOLLOWING THIS DREAM?
Kim: I really do hope to help people gain confidence, ease at home, freedom from anxiety, and the ability to see themselves, their homes. and their families in the best light. I would love to hire young girls who have a talent but don't know where to start and bring them on board. Building a larger firm that can be a family is definitely part of my vision. I've also created a kid's chair, the pup chair that we are going to launch in the spring. I'm very excited for people to check it out, I think it will be a hit!
GO LIVE: WHY DID YOU ULTIMATELY DECIDE TO WORK WITH US FOR YOUR RESTYLE OR CUSTOM DESIGN?
Kim: The thought of creating a website made me feel like I had to do taxes and math (not my favorite things). I knew at least it would be quick if not painless, and turns out it was both. I also could tell by the modern, light, and simple work you've done that it would not be a struggle to communicate my vision.
