Erin L Taylor Photography Is Live On Squarespace
Erin needed a new website that reflected her fun, vibrant and inviting personality for her photography brand! Erin did a Restyle of our vault template Brooklyn with us to showcase her photos in a unique, layered and collage-style look. We took our typically dark and moody Website Template and made it light and fun!
“I have gained the ability to control my life more. I get to work from home, editing and running the business side of things in sweats with my hair piled on top of my head.”
GO LIVE: WHERE DID YOUR PASSION FOR THE INDUSTRY OR CRAFT START?
Erin: My dad got me a little hot pink film camera in second grade before a vacation to Yellowstone National Park. I don't think I ever stopped taking photos since! After working as a social worker for a decade and doing photography as a hobby, I started combining my love of the human connection and emotion with my passion for photography into a career of its own.
GO LIVE: DID YOUR EDUCATION HELP PREPARE YOU FOR THE INDUSTRY OR FOR STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS? OR ARE YOU SELF-TAUGHT?
Erin: While I was taught in school (on film!), I am self-taught on digital. Knowing the basics ahead time was SUPER helpful though!
My degree is in Behavioral Science, which has come in very handy. Weddings come with a spectrum of emotions and I am able, most of the time, to read the emotional level of the room and it prepares me for how to handle the moment. It also prepared me on how to appreciate all the different human experiences I get to be a part of at each wedding I photograph.
GO LIVE: WHAT’S THE HARDEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED IN YOUR BUSINESS?
Erin: It's really hard to practice self-care when we live in a culture of instant expectations and running your own business. For the longest time, I focused on giving those instant responses, sneak peeks and immediately answering emails, even if it costs me time away from family, friends and my pillow. I have been much better about structuring time, and getting help for things I don't necessarily need to do myself (like web design!) so that I still have a personal life outside of my business.
GO LIVE: WHAT DO YOU WISH SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU WHEN YOU STARTED OUT?
Erin: You are allowed to say no! I have learned that lesson by now, but at the beginning I said yes to EVERYTHING. It's nice to just be working in my wheelhouse, I think everyone benefits from someone who is focused on their main niche and not trying to do it all.
GO LIVE: WHAT THINGS HAVE YOU GAINED / DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN IN YOUR LIFE FROM FOLLOWING THIS DREAM?
Erin: I have gained the ability to control my life more. I get to work from home, editing and running the business side of things in sweats with my hair piled on top of my head. Running a business is a lot of work, so I appreciate the freedom to take breaks my way, like working outside, or taking a break when I need it, not when someone has designated that time for me. And usually that break is getting my nature on with my dogs to eliminate screen time.
It has also allowed me to travel quite a bit, and I enjoy getting to do that. I am also pretty introverted, so getting alone time during the week has been a great energy saver for me when I am surrounded by people every weekend.
GO LIVE: WHY DID YOU ULTIMATELY DECIDE TO WORK WITH US FOR YOUR RESTYLE OR CUSTOM DESIGN?
Erin: As I said before, we all benefit from people focusing on what they do best. I wanted to leave my Restyle to the pros! I was referred to GoLive by another photog who had a great experience and after looking through the designs and demos, I knew that y'all would be the perfect fit with my style and brand.
