A Girl In Progress,
Self-Development Brand & Community
A Girl In Progress first started in 2018 as a lifestyle blog and has now evolved into a self-development brand and community for millennial women from all walks of life. Its founder, Emma Norris, was named one of Milkshake's top 50 Instapreneurs of 2019 and is passionate about spreading the message of progress over perfection.
This is what she had to say about choosing to work with us: “As soon as I found GoLive, I knew that they could nail the type of aesthetic I wanted to achieve with my brand and site. Their websites were beautiful, empowering and inspiring, which is exactly what I was going for.”

ABOUT THE DESIGN
With so many fun offerings, one of the main goals for this project was showcasing them all on the homepage in a fun and clear way. It was fun to create different sections that highlighted all the things that represent this brand. We also focused on making this site fun and unique through the use of colors, textures and patterns.
Q&A with Emma Norris
What is your expertise or claim to fame?
I'm a writer, author and imperfect action coach. I come from a print publishing background and have written for magazines like Cosmopolitan, Marie Clare and Women's Health. In 2018, I decided to start a publication of my own, as an antidote to all the polished perfection we see online. It's called A Girl In Progress, and it's an online destination for women working on themselves, FOR themselves. The ethos is that it's possible to work to become the best version of yourself, while simultaneously accepting yourself exactly as you are. I also just had my first book published, Progress Over Perfection — A Guide To Mindful Productivity. Overall, my mission is helping women overcome perfectionism and take imperfect action towards their goals — whether that's through my writing, the blog, book or courses.
What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned in your business?
Not to take things so personally! Being a pretty sensitive person, this is something I've had to learn the hard way. Being a writer, you're constantly opening up your self up for feedback and criticism (which isn't always constructive), whether that's from clients, editors, readers and now, book reviewers. I've really had to grow thicker skin and learn to separate myself from my writing.
What does it mean to you to redesign your website?
When I first started A Girl In Progress, I wasn't really sure what I wanted it to b e. It was really just a lifestyle blog, that covered a wide range of different topics. But over the years, it's evolved into more of a community and brand — with resources, products, courses etc. We're also looking at moving into events! There's now also a stronger focus on the balance between self-development and acceptance. So, I really needed a beautiful new website that showcased this new direction and could help facilitate the future growth of the brand.
Why did you ultimately decide to work with GoLive?
As soon as I found GoLive, I knew that they could nail the type of aesthetic I want ed to achieve with my brand and site. Their websites were beautiful, empowering and inspiring, which is exactly what I was going for. The incredible female entrepreneurs and brands they have worked with before, and the fast turnaround definitely helped too!
