Squarespace Website For Event Planning Company
ABOUT THE CLIENT
Dirigo Event Co
Margie Welch is the founder and lead planner behind Dirigo Event Co, an event planning company that specializes in production, planning, and execution of weddings, celebrations, retreats, functions, and fundraisers.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Margie worked with our team on a Restyle service where we started with our Kira Reid Template for Squarespace and customized the design to fit her modern, clean, and classy aesthetic. We wanted to make sure to showcase her unique services and process for weddings and events on her homepage, and one of our favorite details is the use of triangles and overlapping images throughout the whole website.
Where did your passion for the industry or craft start?
My own wedding. While I had been doing events in advertising for years prior to get ting engaged, it was my own wedding that spurred the passion in the wedding industry. There's nothing quite like planning the most personal and joyous day of a person's life - and I love all the "behind the scenes" work that goes into it - comparing/contrasting vendors, discovering a magical venue, finding the perfect decor, and creating and executing a perfect timeline. After my wedding I knew I had found my calling, and it wasn't long before I was working directly for folks in the industry, helping others organize their perfect day.
What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned in your business?
Saying goodbye to weekends! Nearly every major event or wedding takes place on a weekend, so it's just part of the gig to bid farewell to most weekends during peak season. I do live in a state with a brutal winter though, so there is some down time in the colder months - hello winter vacations :)
What do you wish someone would have told you when you started out?
Having a launch scheduled for shortly after the holidays is hard. Ha! Really though, preparing to launch when there are a lot of holiday demands made it hard personally to find time, energy, and concentration, at times. And it was harder to get things done - like a photoshoot, necessary for quality photos on the website - became trickier to schedule than usual as many vendors (hair stylists, makeup artists, photographers) have demanding holiday schedules. And even other key players for starting a new biz like attorneys and graphic designers, were slammed between end of the year deadlines and personal holiday schedules. Really holidays are busy for everyone which made trying to get things done and stay prepared more challenging.
What things have you gained / do you hope to gain in your life from following this dream?
I've worked a lot of (really cool) jobs since graduating from college, and always felt like each one wasn't quite the right fit for whatever reason. This feels right. I already feel fulfilled just in the preliminary months, so I expect that to continue.
