Website Critique: 3 Edits To Your Website That Will Better Sell Your Services

We launched a new video series called “Small Business Website Critiques” where our CEO & Creative Director, Promise Tangeman, will do a live video giving feedback and suggestions to improve for a small business owner who has submitted their website for critique.

In this video, we are looking at Meyco LLC’s website. They are a social media and marketing agency that has a sleek, professional, and corporate look.

Click the video below to watch her live action feedback, and keep reading below to see our biggest takeaways you can apply based on what we see.

3 Edits To Your Website That Will Better Sell Your Services

1. Make Your Website Scannable

When you watch the video critique with Promise, you can see how easily it is to slide right down the homepage without even really reading a word of text! Meyco LLC does a great job of breaking up their text and copywriting with images and cute graphics that make things very clear, but we’d even recommend paring down on the writing even more on their homepage.

The truth is, most people scan, and don’t read all the text that’s on your website. So our biggest tip is one of our favorite quotes from the book “Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability,” where Steve Krug says, “Get rid of half the words on each page, then get rid of half of what’s left.”

Cutting out excess words and writing will leave only the most important information on the page.

PRO TIP: If you have something you really don’t want your audience to miss, make it a headline or title, or have it be the first sentence in a paragraph to increase the likelihood that someone scanning your website will read it.

2. Use Your Own Images To Make Your Site Look More Custom

When we click over to Meyco LLC’s Instagram page, we can tell they are KILLING the social media game on their business page. It looks like they already have some custom imagery, but aren’t using it on their website (yet). Upgrading from stock photos to your own custom images makes the website look more unique, custom, credible, and professional.

3. Show Off The Benefits Of Working With You In Your Portfolio

While you’re just starting out, using a simple gallery of images in your portfolio can be an easy and quick way to show off your work. However, after you’ve been in business for awhile, and have a longer list of clientele, it’s time to shift your portfolio to make sure it’s not just showcasing the work you’ve done, but also the benefits of working with you.

For example, if you are a social media agency, we’d recommend including stats, numbers, and testimonials that showcase how you’ve increased sales, engagement, or other metrics related to your business.

One other tip when showing off your clients and your portfolio is to only consider listing a group of logos if the logos are immediately recognizable by your ideal client. We get it, not everyone gets to work for universally-recognized brands like Apple or Nike, but if the business you’ve served are known to your ideal client (like if you work only in a small geographic region or a specific niche), then include them. Otherwise, the logos don’t come off as an impressive showcase.

The Wrap Up

Meyco LLC, you guys are killing it! Congrats on already having a clean, sleek, and easy-to-navigate website. These are just a few tips and tricks we’d recommend to take your website to the next level and better market your services.
